This is a question that is constantly asked of Sex Educators. And I guess I would need to answer your question with a question: I don't know, does it matter to you? From an anatomic standpoint a finger is able to get many folks (penis-havers and vagina-havers) to orgasm and keep in mind there are paraplegics who are amazing lovers, so this really is a question that is more based in personal preference then anatomical requirements.

So what is with the focus on length? Well there are those folks out there who really do prefer a partner with a larger penis, often the size of the penis itself is arousing even without interacting with the member. These folks will sometimes refer to themselves as “Size Queens”. Size Queen is a term for folks who are aroused by the idea of a large member and may go so far as to insist that penis size is a relationship “deal-breaker”. Size Queens have a fetish focused on large penises and they are a minority. And don’t let the title fool you, not all “Size Queens” identify as female

Is Bigger Better?

Another big issue (no pun intended) is the fact that big penises are en vogue right now, that is to say they are trendy. There have been times in history where small penises and testicals have been popular. For example in Ancient Greece large genitalia on a man implied he was “animalistic” or non-intellectual, versus small genitalia which implied intelligence and control.

Many people insist race has something to do with penis size. Here’s the facts folks: Race has NO relation to penis size! One more time... Penis size is not related to race. There have actually been a large number of studies done on this (both flaccid and erect) and no correlation has been made, ever! There have also been studies trying to corelate penil size to body-type (comparing shoe sizes, weight, and height) and there has not been any replicable data with this research either.

This anatomical racism has many roots. A classic example is the myth of Asian men and small penises. It just isn’t true! The myth comes from the wave of Asian migration into San Francisco at the turn of the century, it started in the Bay Area and spread to Hollywood. San Francisco was a booming trade depot and a lot of trades-folk, especially from China and Japan, were doing quite well financially. And all the Caucasian well-to-do women in the Bay Area were beginning to take notice, and finding these successful foreign businessmen quite attractive. Well, what do you think happened next? A huge backlash in white media portraying asian men as effeminate and woman-like is what happened. Asian men were portrayed as waifish and weak, and this demasculinization was extended to portrayals of their genitalia. This has been perpetuated for a long time, thus resulting in the myth of Asian men having small penises.

What is “Normal”?

We know that trends in what bodies are considered “desirable” have changed throughout history and the size and shape of penises do not escape this truth. But racially-based anecdotal evidence is very pervasive. During slavery in America enslaved Black men were compared to livestock. How do you think this relates to the still pervasive myth that Black men have huge anatomy? Simplifying the basis of male anatomy size in race is often just evidence of internalized racism inherent in modern sex culture.

So what is the average penis length? Lifestyle Condoms’ research concluded what most other research has concluded. Penis length is on a bell curve with a vast majority (over 80%) of males falling into the range of 4 to 5.5 in and only a few outliers on the larger or smaller ends.

So what do you do if you want to change your penis size?

Well, there isn’t a lot you can do. Penis Pumps are devices that physically pull blood into the shaft of the penis with suction. Many men describe pain in the process and any size change effects you experience will be based on this act of forcing blood into the shaft and will not have any overall long-term lengthening effects.

Cock rings can be fun option when applied to shaft or around the shaft and testicles. The ring physically holds blood in the shaft, causing turgidity. It also will force capillaries to dilate, which can increase sensitivity to touch. Some folks experience size differentiation, but again that will diminish as soon as you remove the cockring. It is important to only use rings in sessions of 20 min on, 20 min off, 20 min on, etc... because this blood restriction can be tough on the body. Some folks also experience different sensation of erection and orgasms, and some can even “last longer”. And for some added fun you can always try a vibrating cock ring.

French Ticklers are usually some crazy color and shape on the tip of a condom. The idea is that they are for g-spot stimulation, although I have a hard time seeing why crazy texture on the head of a cock is going to result in g-spot stimulation. Although they do make a great white elephant gift.

Topical creams are designed get blood rushing to an area, and again they provide no long term effects. Another issues with creams is often they are not condom-compatible and they can often cause yeast or urinary infections or other irritation in some partners, so topical creams are not always sujested to be used before intercouse. Over-the-counter pills can be very effective for some folks, however some research claims often the results are a placebo effect (but, that doesn’t mean they don’t work). A lot of the ingredients are actually antioxidants and other blood related vitamins, which makes sense because getting blood flowing will dilate capillaries, making you sensitive to touch, and flowing blood will make the penis more turgid. Overall not having caffeine or alcohol before a trist and maybe a handful of blueberries with a shot of wheatgrass may do exactly the same thing.

The only way to really change your anatomy is to add a toy. There are harnesses available for male bodied folks, so that they can purchase, wear and therefore wield a phallus of any shape or size (even color!). Of course there are toys one can add to their own existing anatomy. Most sleeves add texture more than length or girth. Texture has some benefit in entrance and exit play but they are often made of jelly and difficult to keep clean. Something to keep in mind is many of them are not textured on the inside, which means they could decrease sensation for the wearer. There are toys that are ribbed on the inside and can be worn to add length and girth like the “RideOn” by Vixen. A medical grade silicone sleeve made to increase girth and extend length, this toy is designed to change anatomy size durring intercouse in an enjoyable and easy way for both parties.

Overall something to keep in mind: Confidence is Sexy! When it comes to the size and shape of your genitals you get what you get, and it is your choice what you do with it.
